Die Keramikwerkstatt von Wilfriede Maaß traces the history of an extraordinary artistic meeting place in East Berlin. During the 1980s, Wilfriede Maaß’s workshop in Schönfließer Straße became a space where artists from different disciplines met, exchanged ideas, and experimented with ceramics.
The exhibition brings together ceramics created in the workshop with paintings and other works by artists connected to it, revealing the relationships that developed between individual practices and the shared space of the workshop.
My painting Mondgesicht (1988) is shown in dialogue with ceramics I painted in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The juxtaposition makes visible how motifs and gestures moved between painting and ceramic objects—two media that, for me, were never separate fields of work.
