Palace Chop House
“Dirty, Grim, Extra Noise” is the debut album from Berlin based Palace Chop House – uniquely named after the location in Newark, New Jersey where the infamous gangster Dutch Schultz was shot to death by rival gangsters. Recorded in Berlin, this music was created “live” during a marathon improvisation session. The trio combines the über-innovative guitar work of Klaus Killisch, the fiery rhythm-concret of Uri Killisch, and the spectacular spectacle of Richard Sylvarnes’ synthetics. This essential, groundbreaking album is a full frontal aural assault; shifting from bone-crushing beats to ethereal passages, to spine-tingling Neo-noir. At times freewheeling, at times majestic, this trio spits in the face of convention and unleashes a musical maelstrom. Released December 19, 2023

The painting “Tiepolo” was created in the months after the peaceful revolution in 1989. A characteristic of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo’s (1696 – 1770) paintings is that gravity seems to be suspended. Our ideas of below and above are no longer true. Everything is in dissolution. This was also my impression of the social upheaval in Berlin in 1989/90.

Ein Kunstwerk, ein Bild entsendet von Natur aus Gesprächsangebote und erweckt somit im betrachtenden Gegenüber ein Selbstgespräch. Wenn jedoch dem Bildwerk das Offensichtliche – Motiv, Gegenstand, Perspektive usw. – abhandengekommen ist, quasi die Überzeugungskraft des Sichtbaren zum Schweigen tendiert, dann rutscht ein solches Angebot auf eine andere Ebene. Womit sich dem Betrachter teils unterschwellig Resonanzräume eröffnen, die durchaus kontemplative Qualitäten entfalten, gar zum Meditieren einladen können.

hello darkness
My alter ego ambientfunk just released the single “hello darkness”. Three tracks with guitar feedbacks. The impetus came from Enkidu rankX. He asked to record short guitar feedbacks. This turned into two long recording sessions in my studio. ambientfunk played little, but constantly moved his fake Stratocaster in front of a Fender Excelsior speaker. That’s how the single “Hello darkness” came about. Cover art is my painting “Birth of Cool” which was part of my wall installation in San Antonio, Texas in 2018.
