ambientfunk is the musical project of Berlin-based visual artist Klaus Killisch. Developed as a solo practice since 2015, the project works primarily with ambient and experimental sound, drawing on analog instruments and process-based techniques. Killisch has collaborated with musicians, visual artists, and poets, including Robert Fitterman, Mikael Eriksson ( playin’ ), Enkidu rankX and Richard Sylvarnes ( KaiSaR, Palace Chop House, phaenos ). Recent releases such as Empyrion and The Mystic were published as limited-edition vinyl LPs accompanied by artist books.

The relationship between ambientfunk and Killisch’s visual work is based on shared formal and conceptual concerns rather than illustration. Both practices explore duration, layering, repetition, and interruption, generating atmospheric structures instead of linear narratives. ambientfunk functions as an extension of the visual practice, emphasizing materiality, analog production, and perception and is an acoustic counterpart to the paintings, shaped by materiality, analog traces, and an interest in perception over explanation.
