The Art of Two
Between Autonomy and Collaboration
22.05.–22.08.26
Haus.Kunst.Mitte. Berlin
19 artist pairs, including Sabine Herrmann (monochrome) and Klaus Killisch (expressiv). Historical and contemporary perspectives from East and West Germany emerge as a productive interplay in which exchange, competition, and mutual support inform style, motifs, and artistic stance. In this way, art history can also be read as a history of relationships. The focus is on artistic collaboration and its conditions: the exhibition examines educational and professional contexts, visibility, career paths, and social conditions. The art collection of the Berliner Volksbank is the primary lender and features works by historical artist couples that provide the frame of reference for the contemporary positions.
