Die Zeichnungen entstanden 1996 während eines längeren Aufenthaltes in der Villa Serpentara in Olevano Romano. Die Verwendung von gepressten Blättern aus dem angrenzenden Wäldchens der Villa sollte in den Zeichnungen eine Verbindung zur Geschichte des Ortes erzeugen. Die Darstellungen von Emotionen, Leidenschaft und Gewalt waren angeregt durch Werke von Künstlern des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts, wie Johann Gottfried Schadow, Anselm Feuerbach und den Nazarenern.
