Boy from Mix Run is a collaborative series by Klaus Killisch and Robert Fitterman, created during an extended stay in New York in 2001.
The works are based on loose pages from a 1950s book on Hollywood cinema, combining printed text with black-and-white film stills from the silent era through the 1950s. Fitterman marked individual words in pencil, selecting fragments from the existing texts. Killisch then painted over the pages with acrylic, leaving the marked words exposed. Through this process, Fitterman’s selections emerge as a new text within the original page.
At the same time, fragments of the photographs remain visible and become part of the painting. Text and image are both found material: selected, obscured, interrupted, and recomposed. For Killisch, the process functions much like collage, although nothing is physically cut or added—the existing page itself becomes the material for a new image.
The series was featured by art magazine in 2001 as a recommendation for works on paper.
